BeInSync Review - Keep everything updated on multiple computers
BeInSync falls somewhere in between an online backup service, file storage, and remote PC access program. It wears a lot of hats, and provides a lot of flexibility to people working in more then one location or on more then one computer.
BeInSync Features
Since security is a big part of moving or storing anything online BeInSync uses 256-bit SSL connection when ever you’re moving or downloading files from their service.
The backup portion uses what they call “how backup” to ensure that as soon as a new file is created or modified it is backed up to your secure account location. This ensures no changes get lost if their was a crash.
Files that are backed up are available from a web browser so you don’t need to be on any of your computers with the BeInSync application installed to gain access to them. This makes it easy if you’re traveling.
The desktop application makes it simple to keep any files updated between either your desktop and laptop, or home and office computers.
What Others are Saying about BeInSync
“Love that it’s “start and forget” without need to run regularly or fiddle too much.”
Partial consumer comment from beinsync.com
“GoToMyPC is great, but I have to be logged in to that computer to send a file to myself. I like BeInSync because it quietly runs in the background. I don’t have to have a separate window up to wait for a 120 MB file to sync up.”

Using BeInSync
BeInSync offers a unique service that uses a desktop application on all of your computers to keep files you select all current on each computer. It’s a unique spin on the normal online storage or backup service that is very useful.
If you’ve ever emailed yourself a file because you needed it on another computer then this is probably a good solution for you.
Signing up for Be In Syn is simple, they have a 14 day free trial for their service to get going to ensure it will do what you want it to do.
The first step is downloading their application to install on your first computer. The install goes quickly, and there really is no configuring to do.
After installation you need to select which files you want to keep in sync. BeInSync has some presets you can use such as: My Documents, Internet Favorites, Music/Video, and desktop. Of course you can select which ever files that are important for you on your computer these are just preset suggestions.
You then move onto your other computers and install the same application. BeInSync will know that you’ve already installed it on your first machine and prompt you to select where you want the synced files placed. This could be in your My Documents, on your desktop in a new folder or anywhere else you want.
That’s it you’re all setup and ready to go. Now all of your files will be kept in sync as their modified on each machine. Of course the computer must be connected to the net in order for it to happen. If you computer isn’t connected and you modify a file it will be synced the very next time you are connected online.
There were no hiccups with the syncing of files, and the backup feature worked well also to keep current updates of files stored. Be In Sync also has the ability to store older versions of files if need be. I didn’t test this out, but for someone who writes, or wants to keep frequent backups of files to revert to older versions this is a great feature.
Support
There’s a lot of HELP information on the BeInSync.com website. From their FAQ and knowledge base to the tutorial videos you should be able to have any question you need answered. Through business hours there is LiveChat help on their site, and you can also submit a support ticket via their help desk as well if you cannot find the answer to your question.
Verdict on BeInSync
It’s hard to give a straight verdict on BeInSync since it’s a unique service that doesn’t exactly fall into one category. If these features appeal to anyone then they should give BeInSync a try, since other online backup services like Carbonite or Mozy don’t have the ability to automatically Sync files.
If it’s the backup you’re most interested in then I would explore the option of Carbonite or Mozy, how ever if you’re using a remote desktop application right now Be In Sync could save you time and money by automatically keeping all your files updated on multiple computers.
