NTI backup Now is another well known data backup program that offers the majority of the standard features you expect in backup software.

You can backup data to CD’s, DVD’s, Flash Drives etc. NTI Backup also support disk spanning, so if you have more data then one disk can handle you can spread it out across multiple. Also something I haven’t seen before, NTI backup now also supports drive spanning. So if you’re backing up to an external or secondary hard drive you can span it across multiple drives.

NTI supports incremental and differential backups. It also has the capability to backup open and locked files. This is ideal if you schedule backups and there’s the possibility that you leave open a program with a file that needs to be backed up.

Example: You want to backup a particular spread sheet but you have it open quite often on your desktop. Some programs would skip the file even if it’s changed during the backup, NTI backup now would still backup the file even though it’s open.

NTI Backup Now also has the ability to resume an interrupted backup to save time and not duplicate effort by starting a backup process all over again.

A couple of draw backs for NTI backup now are that it doesn’t easily backup email, windows, or other settings. Also it doesn’t create a registry backup easily. For beginner or novice users this could be a problem unless you know where those files are kept and you include them in your backup.

Using NTI Backup Now

The layout after you open NTI is very refreshing. Simple to understand, and simple to navigate. For restoring or making a backup it really is a step 1, step 2, step 3 type layout. No more information is given to you then is needed for that particular step to work.

Some users noted that the program seemed to be a bit slower when backing up. How ever NTI backup also produces the smallest files after a backup is complete, I’m sure this has something to do with the speed with which it compresses and completes a backup.

Backup and Recovery

As mentioned some users found that NTI backup as a bit slower then other programs they had used. How ever this isn’t the end of the world, especially when you consider the files are smaller when they’re compressed.

Restoring goes off without a hitch with NTI backup now.

There is a great help file with the program along with an FAQ. On their website you can also ask question to support through a user form. There was no telephone support found for NTI backup now.

Verdict on NTI backup now

NTI has got a good program here, it might seem simple but that’s just the interface which makes it nice for beginners. One thing I do think it’s lacking is the ability to backup email, settings, and your registry. Genie Backup Manager or Acronis might be a better choice here.

How ever setting up a backup in NTI is probably the easiest out there. There is no more information shown or needed then just to get through the task at hand. It’s worth checking out, but I cannot rank it higher then Genie Backup Manager or Acronis True Image due to it’s speed, and lack of system backup features.
