Ease of Use
No matter how technie you might be having a program that’s easy to use is always great. I found that with Carbonite everything from installing their backup software application to adding new files to the backup set was a breeze.
Just a quick example:
To add new files to the backup set with Carbonite you can do it one of two ways. One, you can do it via the Carbonite application that is running in system tray, OR you can simply right click on the file you want to backup, select carbonite then click Backup this. That’s it, the file will be backed up the next time files are uploaded.
The restoring of files is just as easy as backing them up.
After installing the application a small icon appeared on my desktop which was a short cut to my backed up files online. I can open that icon any time and browse my backed up files. To restore all I n need to do is right click and select restore.
Reliability
After becoming frustrated with one of the main competitors to Carbonite I decided to uninstall the application for the other company and try Carbonite’s 14 day free trial. I signed up and in less then 15 minutes was uploading my initial backup set.
Everything went smooth there, compared to the previous company I had tried. My previous experience led me to believe it would take days to upload my initial 1 GB of data to backup. I kept losing my connection, and my computer slowed down to the speed of a slug.
The reliability I found with Carbonite as top notch, and I’ve never not been able to access my backed up files, nor have I found my connection with their server not to be active.
Price
Of course price has to be a factor in everything. While I’m a firm believe that you should always buy top quality you can get get the best online backup for a great price.
