#1 You don't have to do anything
If you take action now and setup an automated online backup
program such as Carbonite you don't have to do a
darn thing besides set it up the first time.
After you tell the application what you want backed
up on your hard drive that's it your done. We'll use
Carbonite as an example, once you set
everything up every time you use your computer the little
desktop application checks for new or updated files in the
directories and folders you've specified as wanting backed
up.
If the software finds something new or updated it
automatically uploads it to be stored with your entire backup
set on their secure online server. Using an automatic online
backup literally requires no input from you other then using
your computer as usual after it's setup.
#2 It's not stored on site
Now this is something people often over look when backing
things up. They load important information onto a CD-RW or they
store it all on a USB flash drive. Only to discover that when
they need it possibly the drive or disc is damaged or worse, a
fire or some other natural disaster occurs at home and
no only is their computer damaged but so is the device or media
storing their backed up files.
Avoid this entirely by using an automated online backup
service. This way all your important data is sure to be stored
off site some where's else away from your PC far enough so that
if something was to happen to the room or building where your
computer is at it won't effect your backed up data.
#3 It's easy to access if something happens
As easy as it is to use automatic backup software it's just
as easy to access those files should you need
them sometime in the future.
Let's use the Carbonite example again from reason #1
above.
When you install the automatic backup software you get from
their website it also adds a short cut on your desktop. This
short cut shows you the files you have backed up, and allows
you to restore file(s) one at a time, a folder at a time or all
the files.
There's no loading a backup CD into your computer and
restoring files. It's as easy as browsing files as if they were
on your computer already and Carbonite isn't the only automated
online backup service that makes it this easy.
The point to get across here is that if things do go wrong,
using automated backup software usually makes it as easy to get
the information back as it was to back it up in the first
place.
So there you have it, my top 3 reasons why you need
to be using automatic backup software. If you're not
backing anything up now then I urge you to visit Carbonite and signup for their Free
trial right away. There's no time like the present to
secure your important data, and from experience if you don't
do it now the next time you think about it it might be to
late.
